Murder, Well Done is the first in a series of cozy mysteries by Jim Halley involving Frank “Fancy Pants” Riley. Frank is a former college and pro football player, and the author is no stranger to sports.
Jim is an award-winning writer and editor who spent most of his 40-plus years as a journalist in the sports department for media outlets around the country. He was the national high school sportswriter at USA Today, where he produced its Super 25 football rankings and its weekly basketball and baseball rankings, and chose the All-USA teams for football, basketball, and baseball. He was a sports editor, outdoor editor, and sports copy editor for The Salt Lake Tribune, and he covered the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City for the newspaper. He was also the assistant sports editor at the Savannah Morning-News for several years.
He now works as an equities analyst writing about stocks for The Motley Fool, and is a freelance writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Pennsylvania native is a die-hard Phillies and Eagles fan living in Savannah, Ga., with his wife (and former Savannah Banana Nana) Kathy Gurchiek, and their Cocker Spaniel, Biscuit. He firmly believes Biscuit would be great pals with Flea Flicker, Frank Riley’s canine companion.
When not plotting murder mysteries or writing about finance, Jim competes in a local cornhole league, is a runner who belongs to two running groups, is fiercely proud of his Irish Catholic heritage, and enjoys tooling around in his 1979 MG Midget with members of the Savannah British Car Club.
Jim is already at work on the second in the Fancy Pants series and has some ideas bubbling for his third book. He is the co-author of Just One More Time: The Miracle of Southern Georgia Football.
